Our Opinion - Okay, we hold our hands up.... savvy readers will have noticed that we have given the same opinion for all of the Klipsch Reference range. That's because Klipsch have managed to make each speaker in this range have the same tonality, the only thing that changes is how big the sound is or for the audiophile...."The Dynamic Range" as even Klipsch cannot defy physics so the bigger the speaker the bigger the sound. Anyway I shall leave you to read on.
Trickle down technology, we have all heard of it but what does it mean ? Simply put it means that knowledge learnt from design techniques and materials used in higher end speakers have been used in the production of this model. Anyway, why am I talking about this.... Because Trickle Down Technology is evident here in the Klipsch Reference series speakers like the R 820F. Take for example the Tractrix Horn and Tractrix Bass Port, these are also used in the Reference Premiere range to great effect resulting in deep lows and crisp clean highs with a wide dispersion.Anyway, lets move onto the important bit, How Do They Sound ?
Klipsch may not be the most recognisable name in the UK home audio industry, but we were thoroughly impressed with the sound and build quality of the R-820F floor standing speakers. The midrange content flowing out of these speakers is the perfect combination of colourful and accurate, and the soaring high-frequency sounds are unobtrusive and natural. The cabinet is equal parts sturdy and attractive, and places the speakers at the perfect height for seated listening. In our music listening test, we played a wide range of musical genres, and the R820F welcomed us with clarity and accuracy. We were particularly impressed with the vocal reproduction. These speakers offer a wide sound stage, and did a great job of placing the vocals just in front of the other instruments. Acoustic instruments, like horns and strings, sounded as if the musicians were in our Hifi Demo Lounge giving us a private concert. The bass response is perfectly complimentary of the midrange and high-frequency content revealing a warm, enjoyable nature.
To put the Klipsch through its paces we played an action sequence from the movie “Mad Max: Fury Road” with an abundance of low rumbling effects accompanied by short snippets of dialogue. The R 820F had no problem placing the dialogue in front of the effects, and at the same time, producing impactful bass. The wide dispersion tweeter also did a good job of recreating the frenzied tone of gunfire.
In short, These speakers are an amazing value, and the perfect entrance into the audiophile realm - THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED

I've had these R-820Fs for a few weeks now, and I am so very happy with my purchase. These towers replaced a beloved set of enormous Cerwin Vega Re38s, which I really enjoyed but wanted a change. The Klipschs were a bit "hard" sounding at first but broke-in very quickly (within a couple of days) and produce an amazing spectrum of sound. Instrument separation is fantastic and bass is quite good. I have also added a Klipsch RC-62ii center channel to complete the soundstage for watching TV/movies. The speakers are being powered by an Onkyo TX-NR636 receiver. Vinyl is being played through a Rega P2. The towers are very solid, very well built and look fantastic with the grills on or off. I've played a variety of music through them and while everything sounds good, jazz sounds especially great through these. And in all cases, I am hearing things from my records that I've never heard before. The detail is just amazing, and so appreciated.
