Our Opinion - Okay, we hold our hands up.... savvy readers will have noticed that we have given the same opinion for all of the Klipsch Reference range. That's because Klipsch have managed to make each speaker in this range have the same tonality, the only thing that changes is how big the sound is or for the audiophile...."The Dynamic Range" as even Klipsch cannot defy physics so the bigger the speaker the bigger the sound. Anyway I shall leave you to read on.
Trickle down technology, we have all heard of it but what does it mean ? Simply put it means that knowledge learnt from design techniques and materials used in higher end speakers have been used in the production of this model. Anyway, why am I talking about this.... Because Trickle Down Technology is evident here in the Klipsch Reference series speakers like the R 620F. Take for example the Tractrix Horn and Tractrix Bass Port, these are also used in the Reference Premiere range to great effect resulting in deep lows and crisp clean highs with a wide dispersion.Anyway, lets move onto the important bit, How Do They Sound ?
Klipsch may not be the most recognisable name in the UK home audio industry, but we were thoroughly impressed with the sound and build quality of the R-620F floor standing speakers. The midrange content flowing out of these speakers is the perfect combination of colourful and accurate, and the soaring high-frequency sounds are unobtrusive and natural. The cabinet is equal parts sturdy and attractive, and places the speakers at the perfect height for seated listening. In our music listening test, we played a wide range of musical genres, and the R620F welcomed us with clarity and accuracy. We were particularly impressed with the vocal reproduction. These speakers offer a wide sound stage, and did a great job of placing the vocals just in front of the other instruments. Acoustic instruments, like horns and strings, sounded as if the musicians were in our Hifi Demo Lounge giving us a private concert. The bass response is perfectly complimentary of the midrange and high-frequency content revealing a warm, enjoyable nature.
To put the Klipsch through its paces we played an action sequence from the movie “Mad Max: Fury Road” with an abundance of low rumbling effects accompanied by short snippets of dialogue. The R 620F had no problem placing the dialogue in front of the effects, and at the same time, producing impactful bass. The wide dispersion tweeter also did a good job of recreating the frenzied tone of gunfire.
In short, These speakers are an amazing value, and the perfect entrance into the audiophile realm - THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED
The Klipsch R-620F delivers energetic, room-filling sound that brings your music and movie soundtracks to life. If you want to experience music in a new way, hearing intricate sounds and details of your records that you've never noticed before these are the speakers for you. You feel the music as much as you hear it. When I say they scream, I truly mean it. They hit the highest of the highs, the lowest of the lows and everything in between. I love loud, undistorted music, it truly changes the listening experience, but I haven't even gotten this system over 75% of max volume because it is just so incredibly loud even at 75%. I have the whole Klipsch Reference line running on an Onkyo TX-NR585 and couldn't be more pleased. My home theatre tech was blown away and swore that the setup had to be in the $7,500-10,000 range, when in fact it was less than 1/3 of that.
These speakers excel in all genres played, but particularly seem to like rock. They absolutely wail when you play a little Metallica, Van Halen, or Zeppelin. Not to say that fans of electronic, rap, or reggae will be disappointed, you most definitely won't. I listen to it all and am constantly impressed by the performance, clarity and refined, yet raw power.
Bulletproof construction and gorgeous design really are just the icing on this beautiful cake. I would put my system up against anyone's with confidence that mine would outperform all, except perhaps someone with more expensive, top of the line, Klipsch gear. Other reputable brands make a decent product, but this is absolutely stellar, not just decent like the plethora of other systems I listened to before making this purchase. This is my 3rd Klipsch surround sound system and I cant stress enough how well they are built. I have all three still, the original of which is almost 15 years old, and they all function perfectly and sound better now than they ever have since they are broken in. These are one of the rare products of today that you could likely pass onto your kids, they are truly that well built. Not plastic garbage like the majority electronics today. You will notice as soon as you try to pick up the box that these bad boys are made of real wood and heavy metal components built to last.
All in all these speakers will change the way you experience music in a drastic way regardless of how good you thought your previous method of listening was, be it top of the line headphones, or competitor's surround sound. If you want proof, go listen to them in the store before purchasing. Even the display setup will blow you away. Then you get them home and they exceed your expectations again. I would recommend these to anyone serious about their listening experience, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you give them enough power though, don't try to save money on your receiver otherwise you will be upgrading that component sooner rather than later
