Denon RCD-M41DAB & Wharfedale Diamond 11.1
"Denon has bettered itself in a field it was already leading.
The D-M41DAB is impressive proof that great pound-for-pound hi-fi sound
need not always mean several separate components."

Mini Hifi Package With Bluetooth & DAB - Denon RCD-M41DAB
OUR OPINION - We must admit that when the DM41 arrived in our demo rooms we went straight for the Q Acoustics 3020 and that became our recommended system package and a mighty fine one it is too. On our mission to bring you the best sound available for your budget we decided to be daring and break the mould, we are quite proud of what we have managed to create.
The Wharfedale Diamond 11.1 take everything that the Q Acoustics does so effortlessly and adds quite a lot of sparkle. As the cabinet is larger the Wharfedale diamond 11.1 give your favourite track added depth to a point that is quite remarkable given the fact that this is only a bookshelf speaker. That added bass is also extremely clean, bass notes hit fast and hard without any sense of overhang or bloatedness. This refinement continues into the midrange and treble, vocals are supremely intelligible and the highs are crisp and clean.
When paired with the DM41 you will be treated to a warm and clean sound that seems to break the laws of physics as this big a sound shouldn't come from such a small box. ON DEMO IN STORE
Mini Hifi System With A Big Sound
Building on the multi-award winning RCD-M40DAB, the new RCD-M41DAB features improved sound, style and facilities. The newly-developed discrete analogue amplifier circuit reduces signal paths for greater clarity and impact, while the new Bluetooth implementation combines convenience with an off switch to reduce its influence on the sound of other sources when not in use. Meanwhile the new cosmetic design echoes that of Denon's flagship 'NE' separates. The RCD-M41DAB has two digital optical inputs to hook up a TV, set-top box or other digital gear that deserves improved audio quality, and has built-in CD plus FM radio DAB/DAB+. Add the SC-M41 speakers and you will get the full D-M41DAB system for best HiFi sound.
Denon’s engineers have completely rethought the design, from the styling and facilities right through to the audio circuitry, to offer even more performance and value. The new amplifier circuit delivers 2x30W, so the RCD-M41DAB has more than enough power to drive either the matching SC-M41 speakers or other popular choices (the CD receiver can be bought separately), and there’s also a dedicated headphone amplifier section for personal listening.
Wireless Audio Streaming
Bluetooth is integrated to allow instant wireless connectivity with smartphones, tablets and computers, as part of a package of input choices designed to offer optimal flexibility. The Bluetooth circuitry has been designed complete with an on/off selector, offering convenient wireless connection when required, plus enhanced sound from the other sources like CD, DAB/DAB+, FM or digital in when it’s not in use.
Denon’s popular M series gives you high sound quality based on the “simple & straight” concept. Circuitry is uncomplicated, signal paths are short, and all adverse influences on sound quality have been minimised. The circuit design and the way the chassis is built ensure that the sound you hear is utterly faithful to the original performance.
In an audio component where various circuits, boards, and wire layouts can influence each other, it is not possible to obtain satisfying specifications or sound simply by strengthening the power amp circuit. Denon has therefore eliminated three sources of noise to ensure that the sound is as clean as possible. Distortion from the input selector, electronic volume and power amp has been suppressed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio and produce an even smoother, dramatic sound.
The style of the RCD-M41DAB has been updated and refined, echoing the industrial design of Denon’s flagship New Era Hi-Fi separates like the award-winning PMA-2500NE/DCD-2500NE or PMA-1600NE/DCD-1600NE amplifiers and CD Players.
The latest generation of Diamond speakers includes design elements never previously seen at such affordable price points. At the start of the design process, Wharfedale’s engineers went back to basics to create a loudspeaker system that would once again revolutionise this sector of the hi-fi market and bring high-end performance – and style – within reach of many music lovers, not just the wealthy few.
Advanced driver systems
Whereas most affordable speaker systems are based on drive units that are built down to a price, Wharfedale started with the premise that Diamond drivers should be aimed at performance. That is why the Diamond 11 Series sports advanced driver systems incorporating elements that normally only find their way into high-end loudspeakers. For example, the bass and midrange drivers use a basket with a network of ribs that maintain the rigidity of the basket while leaving a large open area behind the cone. The rigidity improves transient impact while the big open area reduces early reflections to cone and allows the generous, specially chosen internal cabinet absorbent to do its work.
The Diamond 11 Series speakers also feature massive magnet designs to both raise sensitivity and ensure absolute control of cone movement over lower bass frequencies. In addition, the use of a specially shaped single-forged pole piece with copper cap controls the magnetic flux and ensures low distortion through the critical midrange area.
Then there is the progressive suspension which features a lightweight foamed surround for an extended midrange response, in conjunction with a super-long-throw voice coil motor system, to achieve unparalleled linearity and accuracy in this sector of the market. Naturally the woven Kevlar cone, a long-time favourite for Diamond designs, has been treated to provide a precise match to the new suspension elements.
High-frequency performance has been similarly enhanced with a newly evolved tweeter design. Again, an over-sized ceramic magnet system is used, with a copper cap for flux control. And, here, the pole piece is vented through to a specially shaped rear chamber. This provides a low resonant frequency, ensuring excellent linearity throughout the operating system and allowing the textile dome to contribute to a lucid midrange performance in addition to precise high-frequency detailing.
